Lee Zii Jia Announces Temporary Break From Badminton

JABAR EKSPRES – Malaysian men’s singles badminton athlete Lee Zii Jia announced that he would consider taking a temporary break from the sport that made his name.

Quoted from the BWF report, Friday, Lee’s decision was announced after consecutive defeats in the first round of the last two tournaments, including at the Indonesia Open 2023.

The world number 11 men’s singles lost to Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen in the round of 32 of the last edition of the Indonesia Open held at Istora Senayan Jakarta. He lost to Sen two straight games 17-21, 13-21 in 33 minutes.

“Lakshya played very well. I think for now I might take a temporary break from badminton. I don’t know how long it will take to make that decision, but I will stop badminton for a while, until I get motivated again. I will take a break for a while,” Lee said.

The All England and Swiss Open semi-finalist continued, he has not yet thought about qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Maybe I will stop playing tournaments – I don’t know for how long. I have been considering this for quite a while. There are too many (thoughts) for me on the court, I can’t concentrate 100 percent,” Lee said.

“(The decision) It will be good for me to take a break. My priority is to rediscover my passion on the court. I did well in the Sudirman Cup, but I didn’t make many changes after that,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Indonesia Open 2023 entered the quarter-finals. Indonesia managed to field seven representatives in four numbers.

In men’s singles, Jonatan Christie will face his compatriot, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. This civil war made the Indonesian men’s singles ensure a ticket to the semifinals.
