JABAR EKSPRES – Hungarian Ambassador to Indonesia Lilla Karsay said that her government hoped the US$300 million Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) project could be implemented soon in Indonesia.

“We consider MLFF, which is designated as a national strategic project, can contribute to economic development and accelerate Indonesia’s efforts to become the fourth largest economic power in 2045,” Ambassador Lilla said here on Thursday.

Ambassador Karsay explained that the touchless cashless toll transaction system, or MLFF, initiated by the Indonesian and Hungarian governments since 2016, was carried out based on the success of a similar system implemented in Hungary.

MLFF is a project with foreign direct investment (FDI) from the Hungarian government to Indonesia without involving state budget funds and the private sector.

MLFF is the first Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) based solution in Indonesia which also aims to accelerate digital transformation while providing operational transparency and higher tax revenue.

Ambassador Karsay added that Hungary has been involved in a number of projects in Indonesia in the past 10 years, including a US$40 million water treatment project financed through a soft loan from the Hungarian government.

In addition, the Hungarian government also provides fully-funded higher education scholarships to 110 Indonesian students each year to study in Hungary.

“We always want to strengthen and improve the cooperation that has been built for 68 years,” said the Hungarian Ambassador.

On the same occasion, President Director of PT Roatex Indonesia Toll System, the business entity implementing the MLFF project, Attila Keszeg, said the implementation of MLFF would facilitate toll road users and increase toll road operators’ profits by massively reducing toll collection costs.

“In addition to increasing GDP (gross domestic product) growth, with the smooth traffic of people and goods, MLFF also provides operational transparency which has implications for higher tax revenues for Indonesia,” Attila said.
