Jabar Ekspres – A teak forest in the Baluran National Park area of Situbondo Regency, East Java, caught fire on Sunday (11/6) evening and the fire was extinguished by officers after nearly two hours.
Sruwi Hartanto, Acting Head of the Situbondo Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said that the teak forest fire in the Baluran National Park area in Sumberwaru Village, Banyuputih Subdistrict, occurred at around 9:30 pm.
“The teak forest fire that we received information about occurred at around 20.30 WIB, after getting information, officers from BPBD immediately went to the location and the fire was extinguished at 21.40 WIB,” said Sruwi.

He explained that the teak forest fire occurred in Pengarengan Block, Watunumpuk RPTN. Teak leaves, twigs and bushes that began to dry out during the dry season this year made the fire spread quickly.
“Alhamdulillah, the fire has been extinguished. This forest fire originated from dry teak leaves, bushes and grass that began to dry out because there was no rain,” said Sruwi.
According to him, information about the teak forest fire in the Baluran National Park area was obtained from the community, and then BPBD and members of the fire department immediately went to the location.
“After getting information about the fire, Baluran National Park officers and SPTN W II firefighters arrived at Pengarengan Block at around 9:45 pm,” he said.
To extinguish the teak forest fire in the Baluran National Park area, Sruwi added, fire fighting was carried out manually using kepyok and jet shooters, so that the fire did not spread to other areas.
“Regarding the cause of the forest fire, until now it is still unknown for sure,” he said.
