JABAR EKSPRES – Dittipidter Bareskrim Polri uncovered a case of production and circulation of tens of thousands of bottles of counterfeit oil in Gresik and Sidoarjo, East Java. 5 people were arrested and became suspects in the case.

Dirtipidter Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Pol Hersadwi Rusdiyono revealed that the production of counterfeit oil has been running for 3 years.

“If we investigate this production, it has been running for approximately three years, namely since 2020,” Rusdiyono said at a press conference at the National Police Headquarters, Thursday (6/8).

A total of 5 people were arrested and named as suspects with the initials AH, AK, FN who acted as business owners, as well as AL alias Tom and AW alias Jerry who played a role in the operational section.

Furthermore, he revealed that during production and operations, the perpetrators earned billions of rupiah per month from three warehouses that were used as factories.

“There are three warehouses that are used as factories, yes, per warehouse (the turnover) is IDR 6.5 billion. So times three, approximately IDR 20 billion per month,” he said.

The suspects in the case produced thousands of bottles of fake oil a day to be distributed throughout Indonesia.

For their actions, the suspects are charged with a number of articles including Article 100 paragraph 1 and or paragraph 2 of law number 20 of 2016 concerning brands and geographical indications which carries a penalty of 5 years or a maximum fine of IDR 2 billion.

Furthermore, the suspects are subject to Article 120 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 53 paragraph 1 letter B of law number 3 of 2014 concerning industry with a maximum penalty of 5 years and a maximum fine of IDR 3 billion.
