JABAR EKSPRES – The Fire and Disaster Management Service (Diskar PB) of Bandung City revealed that the hydrants in Bandung are still insufficient to cover 30 sub-districts in the Flower City.

Head of Infrastructure and Information Data of Diskar PB Bandung, Riani Indrawati, said that currently there are only three hydrants that are active with adequate pressure (5-8 bar) for water availability in fire handling, namely in Supratman, Kordon, and Cikapayang.

“Now there are only three with good water discharge. It is very unfortunate to cover the city of Bandung with 30 sub-districts. We are very overwhelmed if there is no water source from the river for example or others,” said Riani in Bandung, Thursday.

Riani said that the Bandung City Fire Department has coordinated with PDAM Tirtawening as a water provider to be able to open its water supply in full for firefighting needs, considering that so far there has been a schedule for water flow.

“They also have a schedule for flowing it, but even then, the discharge is small. We ask for it to be opened for at least some areas according to the UPT so that it can be reached because we can’t predict when and how many fires there will be,” he said.

Riani said that her party proposed that public facilities such as markets, buildings, terminals, airports, train stations, including government offices have water reservoirs so that fire incidents such as in Caringin Market can be ideally handled.

“So, we continue to socialize the prevention of fire hazards, including the necessity for every house to have a light extinguisher, then propose that there be water reservoirs in public facilities,” he said.

It is known that a fire hit four shophouses in Block 2 of Caringin Main Market, Bandung City, West Java, on Wednesday (7/6) afternoon, where the fire incident was only extinguished at night.
