Aguerre advised the participating athletes to enjoy the competition, as they are the selected surfers who are qualifying for wave surfing’s second Olympic Games in history – the first time wave surfing will be contested at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021.
“The dream of Olympic surfing was just a dream a few decades ago, but today it is a reality. For me it was an impossible dream. Many times. But I, like you, kept paddling my board, and it became a reality,” Aguerre said.
