JABAR EKSPRES – Seven bodies of victims of a Chinese-flagged fishing vessel that capsized in the Indian Ocean last week were found on Monday (5/22). The nationality of the seven bodies is not yet known.
As reported by Reuters, Sri Lanka divers found and removed the remains of the capsized ship’s cabin. The shipwreck continues to drift eastward.
Several countries including Australia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Philippines joined the rescue effort to search for the 39 crew members who went missing in the incident.

The distant water fishing vessel, Lupeng Yuanyu 028, capsized in the Indian Ocean on Tuesday (5/16) last week. The vessel was owned by Penglai Jinglu Fishery Co Ltd, based in Shandong Province.
Of the 39 crew members on board, 17 were Chinese, 17 from Indonesia and five from the Philippines. Of the seven bodies found today, the country of origin of the victims is unknown.
According to state media, 13 ships are still around the sinking site.
Last Friday (5/19), the Indian Navy found the location of the Chinese ship that capsized in the Indian Ocean. The discovery of the ship was made after an extensive search around the location of the missing ship.
After finding the coordinates of the ship’s location, the Indian Navy immediately forwarded the information to the Chinese Navy. They also emphasized that they would provide additional assistance for search and rescue efforts.
Last Thursday, China’s Foreign Ministry said President Xi Jinping instructed that additional rescue forces be sent and international maritime search assistance be coordinated.
