President Jokowi Heads to Hiroshima Japan to Attend G7 Summit

JABAR EKSPRES – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, and a limited delegation left for Hiroshima, Japan, on Friday, to attend the G7 Summit in the country which will take place on Saturday (5/20) tomorrow.

“This morning, I along with the First Lady and a limited delegation will leave for Hiroshima in Japan to attend the invitation of the Japanese Prime Minister, as president of the G7, at the G7 Summit meeting which will take place tomorrow,” Jokowi said in a statement ahead of departure at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, Friday (5/19).

The President said that the G7 meeting is a meeting of heads of state of G7 members with their partners, and will discuss, among others, climate change, food, energy and other matters.

President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia will consistently bring the voice of the interests of the Global South (developing countries) and collaboration and partnership that will be consistently carried by Indonesia.

“It is time for the voices and interests of developing countries to be heard by the world,” Jokowi said.

Jokowi also said he would hold bilateral meetings with several countries, namely Japan, South Korea, Britain, France, Australia and others, and would also meet with several large Japanese business circles in a business forum format.

Jokowi said Japan is an important economic partner for Indonesia, the second largest trading partner and also the fourth largest foreign investor in the world.

“Insya Allah, I will return to Jakarta on May 21, thank you,” Jokowi said.
