Inter struck back in the 23rd minute through Denzel Dumfries’ header following Alessandro Bastoni’s cross, but his effort went wide to the right.
In the 28th minute, Hakan Calhanoglu’s shot was saved by Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
Inter finally managed to open the scoring in the 33rd minute. Dumfries’ cross from the right side was completed by Federico Dimarco with a strike, the ball had tried to block Bryan Cristant but failed and still entered.

In the second half, Roma tried to equalize the score. Nicola Zalewski’s long-range shot in the 49th minute found its way into the net, but to no avail.
Coach Simone Inzaghi brought on Lautaro Martinez in the 60th minute to replace Joaquin Correa. The substitution had a positive impact as the player created the assist for Inter’s second goal in the 74th minute.
The goal stemmed from a blunder by Ibanez who attempted a cross, but the ball instead went to Martinez who immediately sent a pass to Lukaku. He then slotted the ball into Rui Patricio’s goal.
