JABAR EKSPRES – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that Indonesia’s economic structure in the first quarter of 2023 was still dominated by provinces in Java.

“Java dominated by 57.17 percent with growth of 4.96 percent on an annual basis (year-on-year/yoy) in the first quarter of 2023,” said BPS Deputy for Balance Sheet and Statistical Analysis Edy Mahmud in the Announcement of Economic Growth Release for the First Quarter of 2023 in Jakarta, Friday (5/5).

He explained that the biggest sources of growth in Java were the processing industry, trade, and information and communication.

Meanwhile, the provinces with the largest share of the island’s economic growth are DKI Jakarta with a share of 1.4 percent, East Java 1.24 percent, and West Java 1.14 percent.

Furthermore, Sumatra became the second island contributing to Indonesia’s economic growth with a share of 21.82 percent and growth of 4.79 percent (yoy) in the first quarter of this year.

The biggest sources of growth in Sumatra Island are processing industry, trade, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.

North Sumatra, Riau, and South Sumatra became the highest contributing provinces with a role of 1.13 percent, 0.84 percent, and 0.7 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, Edy said that the provincial groups on Kalimantan Island and Sulawesi Island recorded growth above the national economic growth of 5.03 percent (yoy) in the first quarter of 2023, which increased by 5.79 percent (yoy) and 7 percent (yoy) respectively.

Both islands have a distribution of 9 percent and 6.87 percent of the Indonesian economy.

In detail, the largest sources of growth on Kalimantan Island came from the processing industry, construction, and mining and quarrying.

Provinces with the highest contribution to this island are East Kalimantan at 3.62 percent, South Kalimantan at 0.73 percent, and West Kalimantan at 0.72 percent.

Then, the largest sources of growth in Sulawesi Island were recorded in the processing industry, mining and quarrying, and trade.

Central Sulawesi was the highest source of growth with a share of 2.79 percent, followed by South Sulawesi at 2.39 percent, and Southeast Sulawesi at 0.84 percent.
