Governor Invites People of West Sumatera to Watch Buya Hamka Movie

JABAR EKSPRES —West Sumatera Governor, Mahyeldi, invited the people of the region in their hometowns and overseas to watch the Buya Hamka movie which tells the struggle of a great figure from the region for Indonesia.

“The Buya Hamka movie is a biographical film that tells the life story of Buya Hamka, a cleric born in West Sumatera. Through this movie, people can find out the struggle of a figure from their region,” Governor Mahyeldi said in Padang on Thursday (27/4).

He said the movie also shows how the role of the Minangkabau people in fighting for Indonesian independence and defending the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), therefore the people of West Sumatera must watch it.

According to him, many things can be learned from the figure of Buya Hamka, such as the religious values that exist in him, his nationalism, and his sacrifice.

“In Buya Hamka, spirituality, nationalism, and sacrifice are united. By watching this movie, all that was experienced in Buya Hamka is known to many people. Buya Hamka faced tremendous challenges and ridicule. That is something experienced by a figure and leader,” he said.

According to him, Buya Hamka sacrificed quite a lot for the nation and state of Indonesia and the people. Buya Hamka sacrificed himself so that the ulama in Indonesia would continue to preach, even though the nation and state were colonized by the Dutch and Japanese at that time.

Through this movie, we can also follow the romantic values that Buya Hamka built in his household.

“Because Buya Hamka was a writer and artist, the romantic relationship between husband and wife was built in the household. This can be a reflection for today’s families to build communication between husband and wife. Buya Hamka nurtured the values of the spirit and integrity of the household,” he said.
