JABAR EKSPRES — As many as five alumnus students of Ma’had Al Birr Universitas Muhammadiyah who continue their studies in Khartoum, Sudan, are reportedly still trapped and their whereabouts are unknown after the civil war between the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) and the Sudanese military.
“We stated that there are five of our alumni who are currently studying at the International University of Africa in Sudan. But, we hope they are safe and healthy,” said Director of Ma’had Al Birr Unismuh Makassar, KH Lukman Abd Samad, in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Thursday (27/4).
He hopes that the alumnus can be found soon and evacuated to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and then brought back to Jakarta, Indonesia.

However, he said, of the five students it could not be confirmed whether they came from Makassar, but they were all from eastern Indonesia.
“That’s because most of our students are from the east and God willing, in the future we will make sure their data, where they come from so we can make sure,” he said.
So far, his party is still looking for ways to contact them there, what is their current condition in the midst of armed conflict in Sudan.
“But, we hope and pray that Allah will always protect them there. In addition, they are in good health, safe and can be evacuated immediately,” hoped Solehudin.
He hopes that the Indonesian government can immediately find the students who are still trapped there to be evacuated out of the conflict area in Sudan safely.
When asked if they survived and arrived in Indonesia, whether these students could be accepted back at the Unismuh Makassar campus considering the conditions in Sudan were not conducive, he suggested that the students could continue their studies at Unismuh Makassar.
