FIFA U-20 World Cup Indonesia 2023 Draw in Bali Delayed After Governor Sent Issue Letter on Israel Participation

JABAR EKSPRES – Bali’s governor sent a message to the Ministry of Youth and Sports about Israel participation in the FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP Indonesia 2023.

The draw for U-20 World Cup that set on 31st March in Bali suspended by FIFA following the demand letter to withdraw Israel from the competition from the island’s governor.

He wanted to deny access to any Israeli athletes for coming to Bali – but the irony fact that there are Israelis visiting for tourism. Ganjar Pranowo escalated the issue these recent days, currently governing Central Java and participating as a candidate for future presidential election.

Although, in Bali, most of its citizen holds Hindu beliefs, there would be few opposition against the State of Israel. Some commentators said that the protest for this participation is to gain support for their political reasons for the upcoming election in 2024.

Ganjar Pranowo and the Bali’s governor both belongs to PDIP (Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan) that led by Megawati Sukarnoputri.

There has no issue for an official letter of cancellation yet from FIFA. Head of the Indonesian Football Federation, Arya Sinulangga, adds “we have no idea when and where the draws and the opening ceremony will take place after FIFA’s decision”.

But it has been confirmed by the federation all of the 24 teams that qualified for the U-20 World Cup 2023 is going to be held in Bali from May 20th to June 11th and will attend the event.

Indonesia has been known for expressing their concern about Israeli occupation against the Palestine.
