Most recently, even the group from Saung Udjo managed to appear at the Qatar 2022 World Cup at the opening ceremony of the World Cup. They look impressive and make the audience amazed. an art group from the city of Bandung, West Java had the opportunity to appear at the event. In fact, Saung Angklung Udjo is the only art group from Southeast Asia that was chosen to perform.
The origin of Saung Udjo comes from Mang Udjo or Udjo Ngalegena and is more familiarly called as Mang Udjo. Since childhood, Mang Udjo has often played the Angklung under the leadership of Abah Almawi. Since childhood he really loved the instrument.
In 1955 he became acquainted with one of the Legendary Angklung figures named Daeng Sutisna and created the Diatonic Angklung. Then in 1958 Mang Udjo introduced this instrument to the whole community. Not long after, Mang Udjo and his wife Mrs. Uum Sumiati founded Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU) in 1966. In the early days of SAU’s establishment, the form of performance packaging really freed children to have fun.
Since then, people have known Mang Udjo. And Mang Udjo and his wife decided to establish Saung Angklung Udjo in 1966. He also gave freedom to children who wanted to join and learn Angklung.
As time went by, in the 1990s Saung Angklung Udjo saw many foreign tourists arriving. Since then, the places is very well known until now.
