JABAR EKSPRES – The G-7 countries on We strongly condemned North Korea’s space launch using ballistic missile technology which they said posed a grave threat to peace and stability.
“This launch is a clear and blatant violation of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) and poses a grave threat to regional and international peace and stability,” the G7 said in a joint statement by their foreign ministers and the European Union’s foreign policy chief.
North Korea launched a military reconnaissance satellite for the second time on Thursday. But the launch failed due to a fault in the rocket’s emergency detonation system during the third stage flight.

While pointing to North Korea’s continued actions in launching ballistic missiles despite repeated denunciations from the international community, the G7 said these actions proved North Korea’s determination to improve and diversify its nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities.
“We once again reiterate our demand that North Korea fully abandon its nuclear weapons and nuclear programs, as well as any weapons of mass destruction programs and ballistic missile programs,” they said.

The G7 foreign ministers said North Korea’s actions must be met with a swift, united and strong international response, in particular by the UN Security Council.
“North Korea cannot and will not have the status of a nuclear weapon state under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT),” the G7 added.
The G-7 affirmed its commitment to working with partners towards peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
