JABAR EKSPRES – Indonesian National Police Chief Inspector General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has handed over the duties and responsibilities of the Chairmanship of the 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) to Laos Deputy Prime Minister, Ministry of Public Security and AMMTC Chairman Lieutenant General Vilay Lakhamphong in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara.
In an official statement received in Labuan Bajo on Wednesday, Police International Relations Division Chief Inspector General Krishna Murti said Laos will host the 18th AMMTC in 2024 and other related meetings. The handover was carried out on Tuesday (8/22) evening.
The police appreciated all participants of the 17th AMMTC in Labuan Bajo who had participated in the success of the AMMTC meeting series.

The entire series of meetings starting from the SOMTC Working Group, the 23rd SOMTC, and the 17th AMMTC have produced positive and useful results.
Laos as the Chair of the 24th SOMTC and 18th AMMTC in 2024 will continue these achievements and take further steps in combating transnational crime in ASEAN.
Krishna hoped that the SOMTC and AMMTC which will be held in Laos next year can run smoothly and produce various creative and productive ideas in combating transnational crimes in the ASEAN Region.
He further explained that Indonesia and Laos had signed a memorandum of understanding between the National Police and the Lao Ministry of Public Security to prevent and combat transnational crimes and encourage capacity building to address transnational crimes such as illicit drug trafficking, terrorism, arms smuggling, trafficking in persons (TPPO), cybercrime, money laundering, and international economic crimes. The memorandum of understanding was renewed in 2019.
The National Police Chief and the Lao Minister of Public Security have also signed a memorandum of understanding between the two sides on cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crimes and developing capacity building on August 21, 2023 after the 17th AMMTC Plenary meeting.
