JABAR EKSPRES – The Alumni Corps of the Islamic Student Association (KAHMI) of Greater Europe strongly condemned the burning of the Koran that occurred in front of a mosque in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, on Wednesday (27/6).
“Burning the holy book of Muslims is a very dangerous act of hatred and is a form of Islamophobia that encourages acts of violence and insults religion,” said KAHMI Greater Europe General Secretary Agung Wicaksono
Agung Wicaksono emphasized that this could not be considered a form of freedom of expression.

He added that the act of burning the Koran with hatred is a form of racism, hatred, and a blatant attack on the principles of tolerance, acceptance of differences, democracy, and peaceful life between all religious believers.
On Wednesday, the suspected Koran burner was identified as Salwan Sabah Matti Momika.
The 37-year-old man is a refugee from Iraq who has lived in Sweden for the past five years and is now a Swedish citizen.
Despite being an atheist, the actions taken by Salwan Momika, said Agung, are still unjustified and must be condemned by the entire community.
KAHMI Greater Europe, said Agung, emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony and respect for freedom of religion and believed that individual actions by burning holy books did not reflect the attitudes or views of the majority of Swedish society.
KAHMI Greater Europe also calls on the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are responsible for this hateful act.
As an organization committed to fighting for tolerance, peace and interfaith dialogue, KAHMI Greater Europe, Agung said, strengthens its determination to continue working with Muslim communities in Europe in overcoming all forms of discrimination, hatred and intolerance.
