Aceh Museum Exhibits the History of the People's War Against the Dutch

Jabar Ekspres – UPTD Museum Aceh has a special room that exhibits the history of the struggle of the Acehnese people when fighting against Dutch colonization from 1873 to the independence period.

“The Aceh Museum also exhibits everything related to the history of the Acehnese people’s struggle against the Dutch, from the first time the Dutch entered Aceh,” said Head of the UPTD Aceh Museum Nur Hasanah, in Banda Aceh, Wednesday (28/6).

The special room that exhibits the history of the Acehnese people against the Dutch is on the third floor of the temporary exhibition building of the UPTD Museum Aceh, and it is a permanent exhibition place.

Nur Hasanah said that the Aceh Museum displays all about Acehnese guerrilla war figures against the Dutch such as Teuku Umar, Cut Nyak Dhien, Cut Meutia and others.

Not only Acehnese heroes, said Nur Hasanah, there are also photos of Dutch generals in power to Dutch warlords.

“Photos of struggles, wars, Acehnese heroes, Dutch Generals who ruled in Aceh, then their warlords are all on display. There we also display the information timeline,” he said.

In addition, the room displays various war equipment used by Acehnese fighters during the Dutch colonization, such as swords, rencong, spears, shields and so on.

“In fact, there is also a sabil war saga which is useful as a generator of Acehnese fighters to be enthusiastic or heroic against the Dutch,” he said.

Nur Hasanah said that all of this was displayed as a way of providing education to the public, especially students, about the struggle of the Acehnese people from the Dutch colonial period to independence.

“The museum provides information to people who really need an understanding of the history of Aceh,” Nur Hasanah said.
