Jabar Ekspres – Hongjoin, a talented young musician from Singapore who is based in Boston, United States (US), makes his entire music production process ‘DIY’, an acronym for “do-it-yourself” which means self-directed, usually in a home or residence.
The 21-year-old musician, who recently launched his second mini album “F(OOL)”, experimented with writing lyrics, recording, and producing music by himself by watching online tutorials, one of which was through the YouTube application.
“So actually all my songs that you hear on music streaming platforms, they were made on the laptop that I’m using to call you right now,” Hongjoin said with a laugh in a special interview with ANTARA, Wednesday (June 21).

Amazingly, the musician who was recently named SPOTIFY RADAR Singapore Artist of 2023 does not come from a musical family like some outstanding young musicians. Hongjoin’s love for music began with life experiences and feelings that he began to pour into the lyrics he wrote.
He says writing songs is his way of pouring out all the emotions that are crowded in his heart and mind.
“Ultimately making music is how I solve the problems in my head, it’s about how I translate them into songs,” he said.
With his hidden talent, Hongjoin can even write his hit song “Leave in the Summer Time” in just 10 minutes.
“Yeah, I was really sad at the time,” Hongjoin joked.
Even so, there are certainly many challenges he has faced in his musical journey. The musician, who performed at the Shawn Mendes album anniversary concert in 2021 in Singapore, said that he also worked on many songs for a long time, such as his latest songs from the album “F(OOL)”, namely “In Another Life” and “Long Way Home”.
