Japanese Emperor Visits Borobudur Temple

JABAR EKSPRES – Japanese Emperor Naruhito on Thursday (6/22) visited Borobudur Temple in Magelang Regency, Central Java Province.

The Japanese emperor climbed up to the ninth floor of Borobudur Temple and was on the top floor of the temple for about 30 minutes.

Museum and Cultural Heritage Educator Staff Mura Aristina after guiding Emperor Naruhito to climb Borobudur Temple explained that the Emperor only climbed up to the ninth floor because the 10th floor of Borobudur Temple is reserved for worship.

“We explained that the top floor or the 10th floor is specifically for worship and he was very understanding and respectful,” said Mura.

He also explained why Borobudur Temple was built on a hill area adjacent to a river.

“Around here there is a confluence of the Elo and Progo Rivers, the stones from the river were brought here to build the temple,” he said.

According to him, Emperor Naruhito took pictures of some reliefs of Borobudur Temple using a cell phone camera.

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, who accompanied Emperor Naruhito, said that the Emperor was very happy to hear the explanation from the guide about Borobudur Temple.

“He even took some selfies,” he said.

In addition, Ganjar said that the Emperor’s seven-day visit to Indonesia showed the good relationship between Japan and Indonesia.

“This cooperation can lead to more important things, whether diplomatic, political, and economic. We can take advantage of this good relationship,” he said.
