JABAR EKSPRES – The Yogyakarta Special Region Tourism Office is optimistic that the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Indonesia will be able to boost tourist visits from Southeast Asia to the province.
Head of Tourism Marketing at the Yogyakarta Tourism Office Anita Verawati in Yogyakarta, Saturday (6/17), said delegates from a number of ASEAN member countries are certain to receive offers to visit the Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) Borobudur, Central Java.
“Even though they visit Borobudur, they still stay in Yogyakarta, the accommodation is in Yogyakarta, even though the place is in Central Java,” she said.
Anita emphasized that tourist destinations in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta do not compete, but rather support each other.
“We and Central Java are actually not rivals but partners, so they visit Borobudur but stay, eat, and others go to Yogyakarta,” she said.

Hotels, restaurants, and tourist destinations in Yogyakarta, according to him, are ready to receive guests or tourists from across the country, including overflow from Central Java and other provinces according to international standards.
Yogyakarta’s success as the host of the 2023 ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) held February 3 to 5, 2023, according to him, is proof of the region’s readiness.
Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN can be a means of tourism promotion that can influence the attraction of foreign tourists to visit Indonesia, including Yogyakarta.
“We also hope that the ‘length of stay (LOS)’ or length of stay of foreign tourists will increase. Until now it is still moving at two days,” he said.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that foreign tourist arrivals through Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) reached 3,883 visits in early 2023 and continued to experience an upward trend in February and March 2023.
Foreign tourists who dominated visits in January-March 2023 were Malaysia, Singapore, the US, India, China, Germany, the UK, Japan, South Korea, and France.
