JABAR EKSPRES – The Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka and Ristumeikan University highlighted the role of Indonesia and Japan in strengthening global peace driven by the common principles and values of the two countries.
“The common values and principles adopted by Indonesia and Japan have become valuable modalities for the two countries to work together in peacebuilding and peacekeeping efforts at the multilateral level,” Indonesian Consul General in Osaka Diana ES Sutikno said in a statement received in Tokyo on Friday (6/16).
The statement was made at a seminar entitled “Indonesia-Japan Cooperation in Promoting Peace and Security” which presented three panelists, namely Consul General Diana ES Sutikno, Head of the International Relations Department of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and a representative from Ritsumeikan University Jun Honna.

Diana said Indonesia is in the right and credible position to play a key role in the field of peace because Indonesia is one of the 8th largest contributors of peacekeeping troops out of 125 countries with more than 27,700 military personnel and equipment stationed in nine UN Peacekeeping missions (UNPKO).
In addition, Indonesia has experience in promoting peace building and democracy.
According to him, Japan – as a country in the top five permanent contributors to the UN and top 10 contributors to the Peacebuilding Fund as well as Japan’s leadership role in the UN Peacebuilding Commission – is also an important modality for Japan’s active role in promoting peacebuilding issues at the international level.
Indonesia and Japan are collectively active as member states of the UN Peacebuilding Commission and contribute positively to the development of comprehensive peacebuilding strategies that prioritize institutional development and governance, promotion of human rights, and gender equality.
Jun Honna from Ritsumeikan University also underlined the opportunity to increase cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in the field of international peace and stability, especially in maritime security cooperation.
