Basarnas Evacuates US Citizen Lost on Mount Agung

JABAR EKSPRES – Basarnas Bali evacuated a foreign national from the United States with the initials GS (22) who had been lost on Mount Agung, Karangasem, since Tuesday (13/6).

Coordinator of the Karangasem Search and Rescue Post of Basarnas Bali I Gusti Ngurah Eka said the foreigner was found at around 1:55 a.m. this morning by the Joint SAR Team at an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level.

“The target’s condition is very healthy but he was cold, we made a campfire. After being given water and food until he was physically ready, the victim together with the Joint SAR Team descended Mount Agung to the post,” he said in Karangasem, Wednesday.

The evacuation process itself lasted about six hours, in which nine Basarnas Bali personnel arrived at the Pasar Agung Temple Hiking Post at 22.50 Wita and climbed about 10 minutes after getting ready.

Ngurah Eka said the weather conditions at that time were cloudy with temperatures ranging from 19-23 degrees Celsius, and when the team was at an altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level, they descended because they received information that the victim sent the location of his whereabouts.

“The victim’s position is at an altitude of 1,790 meters above sea level and can still communicate and inform his position. The victim’s location cannot be directly accessed, so the Joint SAR Team climbed up to 2,000 meters above sea level, then descended to find a path to reach the victim’s position,” he said.

After being found, Basarnas Bali brought the male American foreigner to the Pasar Agung Temple Hiking Post for four hours so that the process ended at 4.45 Wita.

Furthermore, the medical team conducted a health check with the results of the victim’s condition so that he could immediately return to the hotel.
