Dry Season Burns Two Hectares of Land!

JABAR EKSPRES – The dry season has caused forest and land fires that burned about two hectares of land in Gampong Data Makmur, Blang Bintang Subdistrict, Aceh Besar District, on Sunday (6/11) night.

“The latest condition is that the fire has been extinguished,” said Ilyas, Acting Head of the Aceh Disaster Control Agency (BPBA) through the BPBA Disaster Management Operations Control Center (Pusdalops PB) in Banda Aceh, Monday (6/12), early morning.

He explained that the land fire occurred at around 7:10 pm. The area burned was about two hectares. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The land in the hilly area belongs to Syamsuar (42). There were no casualties in the incident.

When receiving information about the fire, said Ilyas, BPBD Aceh Besar immediately deployed two units of the fire fighting fleet to the scene to extinguish the fire.

Until now, officers have succeeded in extinguishing the fire so that it does not spread to burn other land.

“BPBD Aceh Besar deployed two units of firefighting fleet each from Sibreh Post and Durung Post to the scene,” he said.

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) urged the people of Aceh to be aware of the potential for forest and land fires as a result of two climate change phenomena, namely El Nino and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), which resulted in drought in the Indonesian region.

“So for forest and land fires in this period there is more potential to occur, because of drought. Then also because of the influence of increased surface temperatures so that lands are easily burned,” said Head of BMKG Class I Meteorological Station Sultan Iskandar Muda (SIM) Nasrol Adil.

Especially, Nasrol continued, areas in the central Aceh region such as Central Aceh Regency, Bener Meriah, Gayo Lues, Southeast Aceh, and other mountainous areas.
