JABAR EKSPRES – The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported an eruption activity in the form of a three-kilometer-high ash ejection from the crater of Mount Anak Krakatau in South Sunda waters, South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province.
Head of PVMBG, Hendra Gunawan said the eruption occurred today at 08:46 a.m. and no explosion was heard.
“The eruption column height is 3,000 meters with the wind direction to the southwest,” he said in a statement received by Indonesia Window here on Friday.
The eruption was recorded through a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 50 millimeters and a temporary duration of approximately 13 minutes 22 seconds.

The nearest settlement is on Sibesi Island, which is 16.5 kilometers from Anak Krakatau Island.
Until 10:00 a.m., Mount Anak Krakatau is still emitting thick gray to brown smoke with a height of approximately 50 to 300 meters and wind direction to the southwest.
Mount Anak Krakatau is currently at level III or alert status with recommendations to the public, visitors, tourists, and climbers not to approach the volcano or do activities within a 5 kilometer radius of the active crater.
