JABAR EKSPRES – Indonesian President Joko Widodo appreciated the commitment of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in an effort to strengthen the protection of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in the region.
“I really appreciate Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s commitment to strengthen the protection of Indonesian migrant workers,” Jokowi said at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim after the meeting at Seri Perdana, Putrajaya, Malaysia, Thursday (6/8).
As monitored through the YouTube channel of Malaysia’s TV3 Bulletin television station in Jakarta on Thursday, Jokowi also appreciated Anwar Ibrahim’s efforts to strengthen fair law enforcement efforts for migrant workers in Malaysia.
“Also, Mr. Anwar and I agreed to establish a bilateral special mechanism to resolve the problems of Indonesian migrant workers,” he explained.

In addition, Jokowi also encouraged the immediate realization of community learning centers in the Malay Peninsula.
“And also Indonesian citizens who are in immigration depots can be immediately repatriated and the one channel system must be optimized,” Jokowi said.
Jokowi’s visit to Malaysia was a return visit after Anwar Ibrahim visited the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on January 9, 2023.
Various agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries reached during Jokowi’s visit to Malaysia were a follow-up to Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Indonesia last January.
On the same occasion, Anwar Ibrahim stated that he did not consider Jokowi’s visit as a working visit between two state leaders.
“Because I consider President Jokowi a true friend and our negotiations are family negotiations, friend negotiations. This is proven by the extraordinary increase in cooperation and understanding in a short period of time,” Anwar said.
