JABAR EKSPRES – An explosion inside a mosque in a northern province of Afghanistan killed at least 15 people and wounded more than 50 others on Thursday (6/8).
The blast occurred at a mosque in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan Province, where Taliban officials had gathered for funeral prayers for the deputy governor who was killed in an explosion on Wednesday (6/7), local news outlet Tolo News reported.
Local hospital officials confirmed the death toll and said the dead and injured had mostly been transferred to medical facilities.
Earlier a local Taliban official, Moazuddin Ahmadi, confirmed there had been an explosion, but said he did not know the exact casualties.
Badakhshan Deputy Governor Mawlawi Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi and his driver were among the dead in the blast in Faizabad on Tuesday (6/6).
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. But Daesh/ISIS has attacked a number of Taliban leaders and several Afghan clerics, and has claimed responsibility for several attacks in Afghanistan, including on mosques.
