Java Jazz 2023: Dira Remembers Her Father and Family Togetherness

JABAR EKSPRES – Soloist Dira Sugandi, known by her stage name Dira, made her performance at the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival 2023 a momentum to remember all the good things about her late father.

“The song that I will sing below brings back memories of my father who passed away three years ago due to diabetes. A few years before his passing, a team of doctors had performed an amputation on one of his body parts and after that he really became a different person,” Dira said from the All-Accor Live Limitless Stage on Saturday (6/3) night.

Before the surgery, Dira remembers her father as a very “lively” person with a good sense of humor. However, after that, Dira recalls, her father began to be reluctant to leave the house and tended to be a quiet person.

“In the past, he could do anything just like MacGyver (a fictional character protagonist from an ’80s television series). I really miss him. But, in my opinion, he is now resting peacefully in heaven and I believe he is accompanying me tonight,” recalls Dira, who can’t hold back the tears, then sings “A House Is Not A Home” with great emotion.

Dira’s father was a musician named Rudiama Sugandi who passed away on February 18, 2020. When her father died in Bandung, Dira was known to be in Los Angeles, United States.

“Thank you. For those of you who still have two complete parents, please spend as much time as possible while they are still there. Promise me, come home from here, call your parents and say ‘I love you mom, I love you dad’. I love you all,” Dira added after performing the song “A House Is Not A Home” and then continued the performance through the hit song “Close to You”.
