JABAR EKSPRES – The Kuta Police Sector, Badung Regency, Bali, on Wednesday revealed the mode of theft committed by an angkringan owner Ismail (32) against a number of items belonging to a foreign national from India named Manikandan.
“This suspect pretended to walk on the beach, then the suspect saw a villa with the door open, so seeing (no one) he immediately entered the villa and took a bag containing cellphones, money and letters,” said Kuta Police Chief Kompol Yogie Pramagita.
Accompanied by Denpasar Police Public Relations Section Head AKP Ketut Sukadi when holding a press conference in front of Kuta Police, Badung Regency, Bali, Yogie said the items that were successfully stolen by the perpetrator Ismail on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
The stolen items were cellphones, two wallets, 260 USD in cash, 250 Australian dollars, Rm178 (178 Malaysian Ringgit) and several pieces of Indian Rupees, as well as several important documents related to the victim’s identity.
After stealing the items, the perpetrator exchanged some money at a money changer on Jalan Kartika Plaza in Kuta, Badung, while the other items were kept in the seat of his motorcycle. After exchanging the dollars, the perpetrator got the money exchanged in rupiah in the amount of Rp6,654,000.
Yogie said when the suspect was about to exchange Rupees, the suspect saw a hotel security guard and an Indian foreigner man who he thought was the victim, the suspect immediately pretended to call someone and left Rupees at the money changer.
On the way to his residence at Kuta Family Inn, Kuta, Badung, the suspect hid the Samsung A52 cellphone he had stolen in an empty lot on Jalan Raya Kuta and a number of other documents were discarded in a trash can on Jalan Polonia, Tuban, Badung.
“The suspect hid the victim’s cellphone in the vacant lot with the plan to take it after the situation was conducive,” Yogie said.
