JABAR EKSPRES —Fashion designer and Chairperson of the Indonesian Fashion Designers and Entrepreneurs Association (APPMI), Poppy Dharsono, believes that the local fashion market has improved.
The owner of the full name Poppy Susanti Dharsono when met in Jakarta on Saturday (29/4) said that the market share of Indonesian local brands is very large. However, there are some technical things that still need to be maximized so that Indonesian products can survive amidst the onslaught of foreign clothing brands.
“I see that the market is good, but the pattern (of clothing) is still not good,” Poppy said.
She explained that some fashion designers still use the wrong cutting techniques. Poppy and APPMI took the initiative to give a short course on proper cutting techniques to several fashion designers at the Ramadhan Runaway 2023 event.

As an effort to improve the quality of Indonesia’s local brands, Poppy and APPMI held special courses to improve the skills of Indonesian fashion designers. One of them is by organizing the Ramadhan Runaway 2023 event for selected fashion designers.
In addition to creating a special runway for local fashion designers, Poppy said she would create a special guideline on clothing sizes for people in Indonesia. According to her, the most important thing for fashion designers and entrepreneurs in Indonesia is to adjust the size of clothes that fit the community.
Therefore, she and APPMI will soon launch a special guideline for fashion designers to fit the clothing standardization of most people so as to reduce complaints of ill-fitting clothing sizes from local brand designers.
“Last year, we already launched. We are now in the process of guidance (standardization of clothing sizes) for designers,” said Poppy.
The clothing size guidelines no longer use letter-size units, such as S, M, L, but number-size units, such as 36, 38, and others. This is considered more accurate and recognized by international standards.
