JABAR EKSPRES – The tambourine group of the United Kingdom NU Congregation received an invitation to perform in the context of Eid Al-Fitr by the Mayor of London, Shadiq Khan, at Trafalgar Square, Saturday (29/4).
The management of the UK NU Special Branch revealed the invitation through a written statement, which was received by ANTARA in Jakarta, quoted by JabarEkspres.com.
The activity celebrating Eid Al-Fitr, located at Trafalgar Square, Westminster, has been going on for more than fifteen years. Usually it also often features musical and cross-country art performances as a form of multicultural representation in the City of London.
“We feel very proud and happy to be able to represent Indonesia and carry the name of NU to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in the heart of London,” said Yayah Indra, Chair of PCI Muslimat NU England in the statement.
Reportedly, the tambourine group will later perform some salawat typical of Nahdlatul Ulama with a taste for Indonesian art to be shown to citizens of the world.
They will later appear with other groups from other countries who will also participate in presenting their own traditional arts.
Other groups include MoYah, The Khan Brothers Qawwali Group, Silk Road Collective, and RnB Legend FaveSoul. The agenda on the main stage will be guided by Ali Official and Mariah Idrissi.
“This is a very extraordinary appreciation for Indonesian Islam in the UK. That, our existence is fully recognized by being involved in this Eid Al-Fitr celebration,” said Shandy Adiguna, Chair of PCI NU UK.
“You also don’t only represent NU, but we also represent Indonesia at this international festival,” he added.
The hundreds of women who make up the NU tambourine team also have other professions and live in various cities in England, Scotland and Wales. They also actively participate in the Indonesian Embassy in London, the Indonesian mosque in London, and several religious and community activities in several cities in England.
