Police: Fire in Cipali Rest Area not Extinguished After 2 Days

JABAR EKSPRES — The Subang Resort Police said the fire outburst phenomenon that occurred at the KM 86 B Rest Area of the Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali) Toll Road in Subang Regency, West Java, had not been extinguished after two days.

The burst of fire emerged from a water well in the parking lot of the rest area. The phenomenon first appeared on Wednesday (4/26) at around 08.30 WIB.

“It hasn’t gone out yet,” said Subang Police Chief, AKBP Sumarni, when contacted in Bandung, West Java, Friday (28/4).

Sumarni said that his party, together with related agencies and Pertamina, had tried to overcome the fire in the rest area water well by considering the smallest risk.

According to her, the initial handling that has been carried out is the evacuation of residents who are in the rest area, the closure of the KM 86 B rest area, and the installation of a police line around the fire spout area.

In addition, according to him, a team of health workers has also been on standby at the location to anticipate medical emergencies during the efforts to extinguish the spout.

Based on the results of the meeting with the integrated team, he said the countermeasure would be carried out using the capping method in the area of the spout.

“By flowing gas from the water well through pipes that are being designed by a team of experts and technical from Pertamina EP. Other teams assist in the execution of the work,” he said.

Previously, the West Java Police Traffic Directorate had also temporarily closed the KM 86 Cipali Toll Road Rest Area for public safety. The police also ensured that the phenomenon did not interfere with the smooth flow of the Lebaran 2023 return.
