Governor of South Sulawesi Releases 19 Species to Enrich Bantimurung Butterflies

JABAR EKSPRES – South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman has released 19 species of butterflies to enrich the diversity of the Bantimurung Butterfly Kingdom, which is one of the destinations in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi.

Andi Sudirman in his statement in Makassar, Friday (28/4), said Bantimurung was not only known for the beauty of its waterfalls but also as The Kingdom of Butterfly with around 274 species of butterflies.

“Alhamdulillah, this is one of the times we can gather (at the location) which is a special place for the Maros-Pangkep geo park. And this is also a place for future tourism development and Bantimurung is very attractive,” Andi said.

In addition to releasing butterfly species, the activity which became a series of National Gathering of Alumni Family Association (IKA) Hasanuddin University (Unhas) also planted ebony endemic tree seedlings in Bantimurung Nature Park, Maros.

“We release butterflies and also plant ebony trees and it is one of the rare woods in South Sulawesi,” he added.

He, as Governor, also appreciated the collaboration between Unhas, IKA Unhas and the South Sulawesi Provincial Government, including in various social activities with extraordinary good support.

He also assessed that Unhas has also provided many reliable Human Resources and IKA Unhas as a forum to provide motivation for its alumni to collaborate to build regions and Indonesia.

“We collaborate on activities including social service events that have been carried out so far, including cleft lip surgery and those who facilitate IKA, thank God the support of IKA Unhas is extraordinary,” he said.
