JABAR EKSPRES — The Bantul Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Yogyakarta Special Region, is preparing to distribute water to people who apply for assistance in anticipation of drought that is predicted to occur in May 2023.
Aka Luk Luk Firmansyah, commander of the BPBD Bantul Disaster Management Operations Center (Pusdalops), in Bantul, Friday (28/4), said that based on forecasts by the Yogyakarta Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), this year’s dry season will be drier than usual.
“To anticipate the impact of the dry season, BPBD Bantul has prepared, one of which is to anticipate if there will be requests for clean water from the community,” he said.

According to him, this is because one of the impacts of the dry season is that certain areas or points in Bantul have a tendency to submit requests for clean water, following the decreasing water discharge.
He mentioned that areas in Bantul that have a high vulnerability to the impact of drought are geographically located in hilly areas such as Dlingo Subdistrict, parts of Imogiri, Pundong, and Piyungan areas.
“Like in the Srimulyo area, Srimartani Piyungan, it is still possible to usually apply, but hopefully this year the dry season will not be as predicted,” he said.
Thus, he said, it is hoped that there will be no areas that experience drought, even though the government and related agencies will later prepare for dropping clean water to the community.
“However, those areas, namely Piyungan, Imogiri, Dlingo and Pundong, have a level of vulnerability related to the need for clean water,” he said.
He said that the dry season in 2023 is drier than usual because according to BMKG forecasts it is influenced by the El Nino phenomenon, unlike usual which is influenced by La Nina. The peak of this year’s dry season is expected to occur in July-August.
