SAR Deploys Five Teams to Search for Drowned Tourist at Parangtritis Beach

JABAR ESKPRES — A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team deployed five search and rescue units (SRU) in a search operation for a tourist who drowned after being swept away by waves at Parangtritis Beach, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, on Wednesday (26/4).

Public Relations Officer of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Yogyakarta, Pipit Eriyanto, in a written statement in Yogyakarta on Thursday (27/4), said that the five SRUs searched for the missing victim by combing both on land by the beach, sea and air monitoring.

He said, the first SRU conducted a land sweep from Parangtritis Beach to the east on the cliff of Parangndog Beach, SRU two land sweep from Parangkusumo Beach to the west at Pelangi Beach, and SRU three land sweep from Pelangi Beach to the west at Depok Beach.

While SRU four, using drone equipment, conducted monitoring around LKP (last known position) with a radius of one kilometer, then shifted east towards Parangndog Beach and continued monitoring with a radius of one kilometer.

“Then the sea SRU carried out the search using four jetsky units with a radius of one kilometer from the LKP,” he said.

According to him, the five SRUs that were deployed carried out search operations for victims in two times, from morning to noon, then from noon to evening.

However, he said, from the results of the SAR operation until Thursday (27/4) at 17:25 WIB, there were still zero or no victims, so the search will continue on Friday (28/4).

Previously, three students were reportedly swept away by the waves of Parangtritis Beach Bantul on Wednesday (26/4) morning, but two victims were rescued by the joint SAR team on standby at the location, while one victim was missing and still being searched.

The two rescued tourists are M Nabil, a 16-year-old student from Subang, West Java, and Ziyan Gini (12) from Subang, West Java. Meanwhile, the victim is Fida Auni (14), a resident of Subang, West Java.
