JABAR EKSPRES — The Municipal Government of Padang, West Sumatera, claims that money circulating in the city of 900,000 people reached Rp26.9 billion during the Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri holiday.
“Alhamdulillah, we calculated from April 19 to April 25, 2023, Rp26.9 billion was circulated with the movement of the community and migrants who came to Padang City,” said Padang Mayor, Hendri Septa, when closing the Muaro Padang Festival in Padang, Thursday (27/4).
He said the arrival of migrants to Padang City during the Eid al-Fitr holiday made money circulate and revived the community’s economy.
According to him, this is what the government is trying to aim for by holding the Muaro Padang Festival in the Batang Arau area of Padang City from April 24 to April 27, 2023.
“We want to revive the sluggish community economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

He hopes that the Muaro Padang Festival will continue to run every year by involving local MSMEs and traders in Padang City so as to make the economy move.
The Muaro Padang Festival will be held in the Muaro area of Padang City and will present a number of activities including Selaju Sampan, Bakcang and Lamang Baluo Festival, Padang Fashion Carnaval, Marandang Festival, Bonsai Basking Festival and Creative Economy Week.
The festival is held in the Batang Arau area of Siti Nurbaya Bridge and the Padang City Government will carry out traffic engineering to make the activity a success which aims to entertain migrants and people vacationing in the city.
Although Padang City was shaken by an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter Scale on Tuesday (25/4) morning, this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the government and residents of Padang City to continue the activity.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of West Sumatera Audy Djoinaldi predicts that the money turnover in Padang City is more than Rp26.9 billion because this city is the most crowded city visited by migrants and people during the holidays.
