UFC President Threatens the Welterweight King

JABAR EKSPRES- UFC President Threatens the Welterweight King. UFC President Dana White made threatening comments directed towards welterweight champion Leon Edwards.

White stated that Edwards must agree to fight Covington for the title. This announcement came after Edwards successfully defended his title in a trilogy against Kamaru Usman at UFC 286. However, Rocky outright rejected the UFC President’s request. This was because Covington had claimed that he had not fought in nearly a year and suddenly jumped ahead in the line to get a title shot.

Edwards stated that the proposed fight did not make sense. “I don’t know how that makes sense,” said Edwards after the UFC 286 fight, according to MMAJunkie.com. “He (Covington) hasn’t fought for over a year. Not injured.”

In an interview, Edwards also expressed confusion about how Covington was able to bypass other fighters who were more active and deserving of a title fight. “I don’t understand how he jumps the queue for the world title fight when there are others in the division who are active and fighting,” he said.

“I am now a champion. I have gotten what I wanted, so I feel that I should decide who is next,” said Edwards.
