FIFA Officially Cancels Indonesia as Host for U-20 World Cup

Jabarekspres.com- FIFA Officially Cancels Indonesia as Host for U-20 World Cup. On Wednesday, March 29, 2023, FIFA officially announced the cancellation of Indonesia as the host for the U-20 World Cup, as stated on their official website. The decision was made following a meeting between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the President of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), Erick Thohir.

“Due to the current situation, FIFA has decided to cancel Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023,” the statement from FIFA read. “A new host will be announced as soon as possible, with the tournament dates remaining unchanged.”

The Chairman of The PSSI Had Met With FIFA President

Previously, the Chairman of the PSSI had met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Doha, Qatar, to find a solution to ensure that the tournament could still be held. However, it appears that FIFA has decided to cancel the U-20 World Cup.

The issue began when Israel was set to participate in the tournament. The absence of diplomatic relations between Israel and Indonesia further escalated the situation, with many politicians ultimately refusing to allow Israel’s participation. “Potential sanctions against PSSI may also be decided in the next stage. FIFA would like to emphasize that, regardless of this decision, it remains committed to actively assisting the PSSI, working closely and with the support of President Widodo’s government in the process of transforming Indonesian football after the tragedy that occurred in October 2022.”

FIFA WILL PRESENT IN INDONESIA

After FIFA Cancels Indonesia As Host World Cup “FIFA team members will continue to be present in Indonesia in the coming months and will provide the necessary assistance to the PSSI under the leadership of President Thohir.”

Additionally, the Kanjuruhan tragedy was also a domino effect that ultimately led to Indonesia’s failure to become the host of the U-20 World Cup.
