JABAR EKSPRES — President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called on all parties to work together to support the Nusantara Capital (IKN) project in East Kalimantan as a gateway to accelerate the development of the island.

“He calls on all of us to pray with all our might and work hard to develop IKN as a gateway to accelerate the development of Kalimantan and pray God bless for furthering our movement.” Friday (17/3), a community in Tabalong District, South Kalimantan, was broadcast on the YouTube account of the Presidential Secretariat.
The President said the IKN project is part of efforts to balance national development, with a focus on transitioning from Java-centric development to Indonesia-centric development.
Jokowi said Indonesia has more than 17,000 islands with a total population of he 280 million.

About 56% of the population lives in Java, and his 58% of the country’s currency circulation is also in Java. “So what can the other islands get?” asked the President.
To this end, Jokowi explained that the government continues to develop infrastructure outside Java to increase gross domestic product (GDP) and promote social justice and prosperity.
“To promote (growth) GDP outside of Java. This is to achieve what we call social justice for all people in Indonesia,” he pointed out.
The idea of moving the capital was initiated by Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, but can only be realized by the Jokowi government. “Maybe in 10 to 15 years the capital Nusantara will be completed,” Jokowi said.
