Indonesian Foreign Minister: Multilateralism Reforms Top Agenda

Although there are many differences, Retno concluded from the two summits that there is still a spirit of cooperation.

“And this spirit must continue to be capitalized on,” she said.

Furthermore, the Indonesian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of mainstreaming the SDGs on all platforms. “Discriminatory trade policies must be avoided. The right to build for all countries must be respected,” she said.

With the achievement of the SDGs still very far from the target, as reported at the SDGs Summit a few days ago, countries must continue to strengthen cooperation and collaboration to achieve the SDGs.

“Better synergy is needed to ensure solution-oriented results,” Retno said at the end of her speech.

The Global Governance Group (3G) is a group of 30 small and medium-sized countries, consisting of G20 members and other UN members.

The 3GMM meeting is held regularly every year on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Session to strengthen networks and encourage dialogue among its member countries.

The 3GMM meeting this time raised the theme “Strengthening Multilateralism to Achieve SDGs”.

Retno attended the 3GMM as part of the G20 Troika. This was the second time Retno attended the 3GMM after her participation last year when Indonesia held the G20 presidency.

This year’s meeting was organized by Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
