JABAR EKSPRES – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) broke a world record from Guinness World Records (GWR) in the stretching of the Red and White Flag with a size of 3,431.25 square meters in the Grasberg open pit area from the previous 2,742.434 square meters.
President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), Tony Wenas, said the 3,431.25 square meters Red and White Flag in the Grasberg open pit area at an altitude of 4,285 meters above sea level was part of a series of celebrations of the 78th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia carried out by PTFI.
“The unfurling of this flag illustrates our spirit in celebrating the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, our spirit is one of giving our best for an advanced Indonesia,” he said as quoted by JabarEkspres.com from Antara News on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

According to Wenas, the collaboration and cohesiveness of team members in overcoming various challenges while carrying out the flag has a major role in achieving this world record-breaking success.
“This is a reaffirmation of PTFI’s dedication to the country and that spirit will lead us to continue to be dedicated, work together, contribute positively to society and the environment,” he said.
He explained that the stretching of the Red and White Flag was carried out since August 14, 2023 at the highest location of the Grasberg open pit mine area which PT FI has operated since 1991 and completed mining in 2020.
He added that PT FI had previously won a MURI Record in 2022 for a music performance held at the deepest location 1,220 meters below ground level located in the Grasberg Block Caving (GBC) area of PTFI’s underground mine.
The Red and White Flag Raising was closed with the “KITA SATU” Music Concert which also won the MURI Record as the highest music concert in Indonesia held in the Grasberg Freeport Indonesia mine area at an altitude of 4,285 meters above sea level.
