JABAR EKSPRES – Rayo Vallecano have announced the appointment of Francisco Rodriguez as their new coach via the club’s official website. In an official statement, Rayo informed that Francisco Rodriguez will be their first team coach for the 2023/2024 season.
Their coach last season, Andoni Ireola, had left the club to join Bournemouth last week after not renewing his contract. Rayo Vallecano then filled the vacancy by hiring Francisco, the former Elche coach, on a one-year contract.
Francisco, who is 45 years old, was sacked by Elche when the club was bottom of the table in November 2022 after leading them to a mid-table finish the previous season. After being sacked, Francisco did not coach any club and was unemployed.
Previously, Francisco had coached clubs such as Girona, Huesca, Almeria, and several other mid-table clubs.
Francisco’s official introduction to the media will take place on Monday, July 3. He will look to build a team capable of at least maintaining Rayo’s achievement last season, which was to finish in 11th place with a narrow points difference from the European zone.
