Cassidy Bounces Back to Take Championship Title at Formula E Portland

JABAR EKSPRES – Envision Racing team racer Nick Cassidy bounced back after an unsatisfactory race result in the Jakarta round by winning the title at Formula E Portland, United States, Sunday.

Cassidy won a close race against Jake Dennis (Avalanche Andretti) with a time difference of just 0.294 seconds. Behind them, António Félix da Costa (TAG Heuer Porsche) was 1.140 seconds adrift of the race leader.

“It feels good, because I’ve been doing well in America for the last few years. I love racing here. Jake also performed amazingly in qualifying, along with António who is always fantastic in this race,” Cassidy said, quoted from the official Formula E statement.

The New Zealand racer said he started the race with a strategy to do energy efficiency and speed well, and gave little room for error and won the first edition of Formula E in Portland.

Meanwhile, runner-up Jake Dennis said he was quite satisfied with his current results, even though his time record was slightly behind Cassidy.

“Yeah, we had a good day. I think after (the race ended) I was a little disappointed, just because the race went well (but finished P2). It was very difficult. There are some overtakes that are very difficult to do,” Dennis said.

He argues, Formula E is about how drivers and teams are willing to take risks for the title. However, he said he would not drag on in disappointment and chose to focus on preparing for the next races.

“Nick and I are really fighting for the championship and it’s just about who is willing to take the most risks. Some of António’s moves were also very brave and he did very well,” said the British racer.
