China itself has an interest in the status quo in Myanmar because it has huge strategic and economic interests, including making Myanmar a short trade route instead of having to use the South China Sea and the Malacca Strait.
Not only China, because India, which also has a long border with Myanmar, also has an interest in the status quo in Myanmar.
India and China have the capability to move alone, which to a certain extent can create unequal relations with other countries when interdependence turns into dependence on giant countries like India and China.
In contrast, countries that cannot move alone, such as Indonesia and Thailand, need a joint mechanism. This is what Thailand must realize.
For this reason, it is important for Thailand to return to the ASEAN mechanism that Indonesia has been chairing, so far loudly echoing ASEAN unity.
