Trent Enjoys Being a Midfielder When Playing for England

JABAR EKSPRES – Liverpool FC defender Trent Alexander-Arnold enjoyed his new role playing in midfield for England in the Euro 2024 Germany Group C qualifier against Malta at Ta’ Qali National Stadium on Saturday.

Playing fully from the early minutes in a match that ended 4-0, Trent said he enjoyed his new role even though he hadn’t played too much.

“It’s still early, I haven’t played it too much, but it feels comfortable, natural,” Trent said, reported via Sky Sports, Saturday.

In the final weeks of the Premier League, Trent had time to play in midfield precisely as an inverted full back starting from his team away to Elland Road against Leeds United in April 2023.

At that time, Trent performed nicely by scoring two assists in Liverpool’s 6-1 victory over the home team.

Related to that, footballer 24 that year said it didn’t matter where he was placed when given minutes to play.

“It’s where I enjoy playing and where I can see myself playing. It’s about inserting myself into this team and trying to become a regular name on the team sheet,” Trent said.

“Today was a good foundation to build on. I don’t really care where I play as long as I play,” he continued.

About Arnold’s new role, England coach Gareth Southgate said he had planned this with the player well in advance.

“We talked about it about four weeks ago on the phone and I think he is very happy with it,” Southgate said.

The 52-year-old coach also praised Arnold’s performance that the player made a different dimension in the game of the Three Lions State national team.

“He showed exactly what we thought he was capable of and he gave us something different from our other midfield players,” he added.
