Jabar Ekspres – A technology company engaged in plastic manufacturing called Greenhope has produced a plastic that can decompose naturally when exposed to heat and oxygen.
“This environmentally friendly plastic is the result of expert development. The main goal is to make plastic that has the same quality as ordinary plastic but can decompose faster in the environment,” said Greenhope Head of Sales and Marketing Arsika Ahmad in Jakarta, Sunday.
Ariska explained that biodegradable plastic can decompose naturally within six months to five years.
Thus, biodegradable plastics have less negative impact on the earth due to lower plastic pollution levels.
“If there is access to oxygen at the final processing site, the biodegradable plastic degradation process will happen faster,” Arsika said.

The Environmental Protection Agency projects that there are 8.6 billion tons of plastic that have been produced by humans until now. Meanwhile, only 91.3 percent of the plastic has successfully passed the recycling process.
Ariska further said that biodegradable plastic will not cause health problems for humans because oxium prevents microplastics.
Oxium breaks down plastic polymers into low molecular weight oligomers so that they can be immediately digested by microbes.
“Oxium is designed to break down faster. When exposed to oxygen, heat, or ultraviolet light, biodegradable plastics undergo a faster degradation process,” says Arsika.
“This can help reduce the time required for plastics to decompose in nature and reduce the potential accumulation of plastic waste over a long period of time,” she added.
