Indonesia Complies with International Code For Raveler Protection

Indonesia through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) officially complies with the international code for tourist protection compiled by the United Nations of World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as an effort to provide safety guarantees for international tourists who want to travel to various countries including Indonesia.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno in his official statement here on Friday said the code is a joint commitment from UNWTO members to ensure the security and safety of tourists visiting a destination and encourage tourists to comply with and respect the customs that apply in the tourist destination they visit.

“This rule is reciprocal. So in addition to their protection they must also comply with the agreement to respect customs, culture and local wisdom,” he said.

He explained that this international code for tourist protection was adopted by the UNWTO General Assembly at its 24th session in Madrid, Spain in 2021 through resolution 732 (XXIV). Thus, Indonesia’s statement of compliance is considered appropriate for Indonesian tourism based on local wisdom.

“This statement of compliance is our joint commitment to provide security and safety for tourists and ensure the integrity of our cultural customs and traditions,” he said.

On this occasion, Sandiaga also invited UNWTO to participate in a number of collaborations in an effort to improve the quality of the tourism sector in Indonesia.

The cooperation is to create knowledge sharing activities between experts / destination managers related to the implementation of sustainable tourism and how to overcome potential problems, organize training and capacity building for professionals on training relevant to tourism marketing and organize tourism marketing conferences.

As well as inviting global tourism marketers to expand networks with global stakeholders.

He hopes that with the establishment of this cooperation, the quality of the Indonesian tourism sector will be stronger, so that it can stimulate the economy and open up business opportunities and employment as widely as possible.
