Axelsen doesn’t Care Who His Opponent is in Indonesia Open final

JABAR EKSPRES – World number one men’s singles player Viktor Axelsen admitted that he does not care whoever the opponent he will face in the final round of the Indonesia Open 2023 at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Sunday (6/18).

For the Tokyo Olympic gold medalist, he will be ready to face anyone even if he has to face the host representative once.

“I don’t really care. I will only focus on myself,” Axelsen said when met after the semifinal match on Saturday (6/17) night.

The Danish badminton player occupies the top pool of the Indonesia Open men’s singles main draw. He has just won the ticket to the top party of the BWF Super 1000 tournament after defeating Prannoy HS from India.

Axelsen completed the semifinal match with twin scores 21-15, 21-15.

Meanwhile, from the lower pool, the second semifinal match will take place between Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Li Shi Feng.

If Ginting escapes the semifinals and advances to the final round, Axelsen remains in his stance that he will face whoever his potential opponent is.

Axelsen already suspects that if Ginting comes out as the winner of the second semifinal, then the flow of support at Istora will lead to the host representative.

“If I play against Ginting, I can guess that the support will be directed towards him. But I’ve already experienced it, so I’ll just enjoy the match,” Axelsen said.

He also prayed for the players who will compete in the second semifinal to compete optimally and advance to the top party.

“I wish them all the best,” he said briefly.

Regarding his performance at Istora, Axelsen was happy to be able to perform at one of his favorite arenas. Istora was his dream arena to play in when he was a young badminton player.
