JABAR EKSPRES – PT Pertamina International Refinery (PT KPI) Dumai Unit, PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan together with the Riau Provincial Environment and Forestry Office collected 3.2 tons of waste in a beach cleanup with the community on beaches in Dumai and Bengkalis, Saturday.
A total of 386 participants in the cleanup at Marina Beach, Teluk Makmur Village, Medang Kampai District, Dumai City managed to collect 2.3 tons of waste with details of 0.5 tons of organic waste and 1.7 tons of inorganic waste.
While implementing a similar action in Sei Pakning, Bengkalis Regency, PT KPI Unit Dumai managed to clean up 844.8 kilograms of waste with details of 159.7 kg of organic waste and 685.1 kg of inorganic waste.

“PT KPI Unit Dumai is committed to reducing waste through various programs. This time we raised the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” in this beach cleanup activity,” said PT KPI VP Production Planning and Monitoring, Permono Avianto.
The Coastal Clean Up is part of a series of similar actions in 133 locations across Indonesia. This activity is commanded by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia.
He explained that marine debris is a serious threat to humanity. To deal with the problem, the company is committed to reducing waste through various programs that have been implemented internally and externally.

Among these are the substitution of bottled drinking water with the provision of tumblers, the utilization of used iron, the almsgiving program for used cooking oil, the provision of integrated dining areas, and the transformation of electronic correspondence to reduce office waste.
Makmun Murod, Head of Riau Province’s Environment and Forestry Service, said that this kind of activity needs to continue to be developed with the support and active role of the community and development partners.
