Pelindo Collects 1.7 tons of Waste during Semarang Beach Cleanup Action

JABAR EKSPRES – Pelindo Group together with the Semarang Environment Agency and the community managed to collect as much as 1.7 tons of waste during a beach cleanup action held at Tirang Beach, Semarang City, Central Java, Saturday.

“The beach cleanup is a form of the company’s concern for the environment,” said PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Corporate Secretary Widyaswendra in a written statement in Surabaya.

The 1,758 kg of waste collected consisted of 416 kg of organic waste and 1,342 kg of inorganic waste.

The action was carried out as a means of education for the community to be aware of maintaining environmental cleanliness, especially in disposing of waste in designated places.

Widyaswendra said, the marine environment is closely related to companies that have port services business fields. The beach cleanup carried out by Pelindo Group coincides with the commemoration of World Environment Day 2023 which takes the theme “Solutions for Plastic Pollution”.

“Of the waste collected, 75 percent or 1,301 kg was plastic waste. From this we know that currently there are still many people who throw garbage carelessly which results in a dirty environment, one of which is Tirang Beach,” said Widyaswendra.

On that occasion, Pelindo Group through the Pelindo Peduli program handed over assistance to the Semarang City Environment Agency. The assistance provided is in the form of supporting equipment for waste management such as trash bins, waste scales, and other equipment. Widyaswendra said that the Pelindo Peduli program is a sustainable program.

Prior to the beach cleanup, Widyaswendra said PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas had planted 55,000 mangrove seedlings in Surabaya. In 2023, PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas will plant 125,000 mangrove seedlings in various regions in Indonesia.

In addition to mangrove planting, he said, his party will also rehabilitate coral reefs and plant a number of trees.
